Packing Checklist

Packing for a foreign football tour takes more than tossing gear into a bag—it takes strategy. This checklist breaks it all down, helping you bring exactly what you need and nothing you don’t. From game-day equipment and travel clothes to carry-on essentials and must-have extras, it’s designed to keep players organized and parents stress-free. Travel light, pack smart, and get ready to hit the ground running—on the field and across Europe.

1. Bags & Luggage

Do not bring more than these three items. If you pack wisely, you may only need two of the three:

  • One large sport bag or larger piece of luggage (to be checked at the airport, must meet airline size and weight requirements)
  • One roller/carry-on bag (must meet carry-on dimensions)
  • One small backpack (personal item)

2. Sport Bag Contents

  • All football gear (see next section)
  • Pair of jeans (wear a second pair on the flight?)
  • 2–3 T-shirts
  • Socks
  • Toiletries
  • 1–2 long sleeve shirts
  • AFW-provided apparel
  • Gym shoes or casual shoes (opposite of what you wear on the plane)

3. Football Equipment

Use this checklist to ensure you have everything you need:

  • Helmet (clean and decorated?)
  • Mouthpiece/Chinstrap (typically 2)
  • Shoulder pads (extra laces)
  • Thigh pads or 5-pocket/hip pads/girdle
  • Knee pads
  • Practice pants?
  • Cleats (extra laces)
  • Multiple pairs of athletic socks
  • Compression/undershirt
  • QBs/WRs/RBs/DBs – deflated football*
  • Empty water bottle

*Skill players: If possible, deflate a football and pack it. A hand pump will be available. QBs should bring their preferred ball.

4. Carry-On Bag

  • Undergarments
  • Non-athletic socks
  • Khaki pants (1 pair)?
  • Sleepwear
  • Other clothing

5. Additional Suggested Items

  • Prescription medication (in permissible containers)
  • Contact lenses (keep in carry-on if replaceable)
  • Toiletries: toothbrush/paste, deodorant, comb/brush, razor/shave cream
  • Camera and/or phone
  • Small container of laundry soap (to hand wash gear mid-tour)
