USA-AFW ELITE Pre-game vs. France National Team 2013

US and Italian Players Post-Game

For the fifth consecutive year American Football Worldwide will return a high school select team to Italy in late March of 2019 – landing in Rome Easter Sunday morning.  After highly successful journeys to France in 2013 and 2014 to compete with both the national U19 team of France and subsequently their defending national champion U19 team, USA-AFW ELITE has had four fantastic tour experiences in Italy that culminated with games against the national U19 team of Italy.  In addition, the past two years AFW has organized the first two games between American high school players and the national U20 team of Ireland.

Once again for the upcoming 2019 tour, early morning practices to prepare for this unique and special international game will be followed by engaging educational touring opportunities for our team and travel party along with some free exploration time for the remainder of each day.  The tour schedule is ambitious as AFW ELITE travelers will take in the incomparable highlights of Rome, Tuscany – with Florence and Siena, Cinque Terra as well as northern Italy in the Lake Como region northern of Milan where the game will be played.

The team and tour group will land in Rome on Sunday, March 24, 2019.  Starting upon arrival and into Tuesday morning the group will tour Vatican City, including the Vatican Museums, St. Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel; the Roman Colosseum and Forum; Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon and many of the other incomparable sights of Rome.  Again, with the help of our 24/7 tour manager and AFW chaperone-coaches there will be some free time for travelers to enjoy more Italian food, gelato and personal interests.

Later in the morning on Tuesday the tour group departs for Tuscany with an afternoon-early evening stopover in the beautifully preserved medieval city of Siena for some touring, free time and dinner.  The group will move on to its overnight accommodations further north in Tuscany in the relaxing spa town of Montecatini Termi just west of Florence. The following day the team and tour group will take in the incomparable city of Florence, “the birthplace of the Renaissaince” and home to Michelangelo’s David.  In the late afternoon, players and staff will go to co-practice with Italian players who are part of the local American football club.  Parent and family members will have additional time in this beautiful city.  All in the tour party will regather for a later dinner in Florence before returning to accommodations in Montecatini.

After morning practice, the following day the group will spend the bulk of the day on the coastline of Italy – with some potential time on the beach – in the exquisite area called Cinque Terra referred to as “The Italian Riviera”.  You will then proceed to your final accommodation at the southern tip of Lake Como one of Europe’s most famous and beautiful vacation spots.  On Friday there will be time to explore the beautiful lakefront of Como.  Other family members can arrange to visit nearby Milan, Italy’s financial and fashion capital, if that is of interest.  In the late afternoon the team and staff will move to a final pre-game practice – potentially with the Italian national team.  All in the tour party will reconvene for dinner later that evening.

Saturday is “International Game Day” as you will line up in the Red, White and Blue to compete honoring the USA.  Parents will have an opportunity for morning touring followed by a pre-game tailgate.  For athletes and spectators, this international contest will be an athletic career highlight.  All the while you will be serving as an ambassador for the great game of American football and our country.

After the game we will celebrate our ‘friendly contest’ with our Italian hosts and the opportunity we had to grow together through the game of football.  You are invited to strike up some overseas friendships that you can carry into the future.  Invite someone to visit you in the US – and better yet put yourself in a better position to come back and visit Italy again in the future.

We return home on Sunday, March 31st with memories that will last a lifetime.

Go USA – Play to Win!
